Product Developer
 
Job Title: Product Developer
Location: G.T.A.
Salary: Commensurate with experience, qualifications

Reporting to the Director of Product Development, you will be responsible for the development of soups, broths, sauces, gravies, juices and retortable food products for processing and packing in aseptic and recart packages.

Responsibilities;
Work with the Purchasing Department and Sales to rationalize the number of ingredients and formulas
Interface with the Sales personnel to establish priorities and develop timelines to meet customers’ requests
Work with and interact with customers on development of new products as needed
Preparation of batch sheets and approval of all first runs of new products
Derivation of parameters for nutritional labels and analytical targets and ranges for QC line testing
Ensure information on packaging graphics that is related to ingredients, nutritionals and other claims are correct and are in regulatory compliance.
Interface with the outside testing laboratories to ensure calibration and third party analyticals as required by customers
Costing of all formulas
Work with the Technical Department to develop an internal pilot plant and 3rd party services as required
Commercialize bench top samples to be run in the current plant processes
Work with ingredient suppliers to ensure NAFTA compliance
Work with the V.P.of Manufacturing Systems for equipment related to production of new products
Documentation of all prototype formulas and worksheets

To qualify for this position you must have;

A strong work ethic, a ‘can do’ or ‘what ever it takes’ attitude
Flexibility to work in a fast paced environment with multiple priorities
Ability to work independently, make decisions and follow through on commitments
  • Experience with aseptic and retorted products would be an asset

  • Working experience with broths and soups would be an asset.

  • Experience in aseptic packaging and processing in a low acid, high speed environment would be an asset

  • Thorough working knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, SOPs, WHMIS, C-TPAT, CFIA, FDA,USDA, Kosher, Organic and Halal requirements

  • Knowledge of all Canadian and US food safety regulations and labeling requirements

  • Familiarity with Genesis software or equivalent for nutritional calculations

  • Knowledge of microbiological techniques and procedures

  • Culinary training and experience would be an asset
